There have been several pictures of bird's nest fungus on this site recently, and I know this trail is a guaranteed spot to see many of them. And I am guaranteed to see hair ice on this trail in certain conditions; today looked about right for both bird's nest fungus and hair ice; I was right.
The recent wind storm knocked some trees across the trail; most aren't an issue, most are duck-underable, one's a scoot over, but one requires scrambling around a bit.
The slidey clay slope that's been occasionally sketchy is now spanned by a bridge, so that's not an issue any longer.
The bird's nest fungus is about at its height now; the cups are fresh, and most of them still have their "eggs" (seeds). Typically they're at the base of salmon berry shrubs, though I did see some nestled in a clump of lichen hanging on a tree.
Hair ice - low to the ground, fizzing out of alder branches laying on the ground.
The Granite Falls Museum is open until 5 on Sundays. Go visit! It's on Union Street off of Granite Avenue.
