Central Cascades > Stevens Pass - West
Lakka and I took a little hike up to Trout Lake on the way home from Leavenworth. The road to the trailhead was good, and the trail was in excellent condition. Lakka crossed the beautiful new bridge with a little trepidation (high up and fast water under, for a dog relatively new to hiking) then was busy sniffing for signs of small mammals along the trail and eating the 1/2" dusting of fresh snow along the trail. She waded the chilly stream crossing quickly while Mommy stepped carefully across in her waterproof boots. A good trail for leashed dogs--wide and level enough for human companion to walk comfortably, leash in hand, without tripping up when looking up!
Trout Lake campsites were mildly damp, in great condition, and we didn't see any other hikers all afternoon. It would be a great time for a short backpack trip, with a day in between to reach the upper lakes hiking light. Lots of trillium just beginning their bloom, and bright pink salmon berry blossoms against the bright yellow-green of opening spring aspen, cottonwood, and woodland shrubs.
