My wife and I headed to Rattlesnake Lake and planned to attempt the hike to East Peak. The weather was amazing so we figured the snow mentioned in previous trip reports would have melted by now.
We made it to East Peak and only saw a few off-trail patches of snow at the very top. The trail was a little muddy in places but there was no need for gaiters. We did not bring trekking poles and found that we were fine without them.
This hike is a wonderful way to escape the masses crowding Rattlesnake Ledge, especially when the weather is particularly magnificent. I definitely recommend stopping at the ledge for the views but if you want to challenge yourself AND have a little peace and quiet, resume your journey up Rattlesnake Mountain. There are a couple benches at the top, a nice view of Si and the surrounding peaks and a big cell tower to mark that you have finished this hike. (The tower doesn't interfere with the view or overall experience of this hike.)
