Went on a lovely hike at Annette Lake. The parking lot is really close once you take exit 47 on I-90 which is always nice and was suitable for all cars in my opinion. There were a few easily navigated pot holes but was overall in some of the best condition I've seen compared to many rocky rides. That being said it was a dry week previous to my hike so there wasn't too much mud at that level.
When we pulled up there was a crew of WTA volunteers working on the Asahel Curtis Nature trail which is just off of the Annette Lake trail-head. I highly recommend taking an extra 15-20 minutes on this short loop. The work they were doing was great and the trail looked awesome. There were also a couple of bridges and a small water fall.
After our detour we headed off on the Annette lake trail. The trail is not all that steep but did have a good bit of mud on the way. Hopefully if you are reading this you have already invested in a good pair of waterproof hiking boots but if not they are really going to be your best friend, especially this time of year.
Much of the snow from the previous report has now melted. Doesn't seem like a cold front is on its way anytime soon so you may not see any if you make this hike from May on. What you will see are wildflowers in bloom, striking views of budding trees on a backdrop of mountain tops, numerous falls and streams, old growth forests and at the end a gorgeous lake shadowed by an impressive peak.
Great time of year to check this hike out. Was not crowded at all on a Friday morning but expect crowds on the weekend. Bring boots and/or trekking pole (not to mention a camera, you'll need it!)
