We spotted a Pacific Fisher crossing a boulder field about a mile from the lake! We had a good look at it (20-30 seconds) before it disappeared behind a rock.
We identified it later as a fisher from photos and youtube videos and contacted the North Cascades Conservation Council (mcccinfo@northcascades.org) to let them know. They were pretty excited and said it had been a very long time since a fisher sighting had been reported in the Cascades.
We were kind of surprised it made an appearance given the heavy (and frequently noisy) traffic on the trail but feel really lucky to have encountered this creature.
If you see a fisher at Colchuck, or anywhere, please let NCCC know.
