Trip Report
Squire Creek Pass via Eight-mile Trail — Saturday, Sep. 26, 2015
North Cascades > Mountain Loop Highway
Trail was steeper and rougher than anticipated but not hard to follow. Definitely felt like a steep climbers trail. Peak a boo views of the beautiful granite at exfoliation dome across the valley as we headed uphill. Also enjoyed the views of eight mile creek cascading over the granite slabs. Clouds obscured half of three fingers but still beautiful views and felt very alpine. Trail stays wet so watch out for slippery roots and mud especially on the descent.
Really amazing granite all over the place. Lots of diversity in ecosystems you pass through and generally a hike I'd recommend to someone who is up for the 8 miles on rougher forest service road. If we had started earlier I would have continued up the ridge a bit from the pass.
