Tolmie Peak Lookout - Eunice Lake — Friday, Oct. 16, 2015
Mount Rainier Area > NW - Carbon River/Mowich
It was a beautiful day for a hike. To start, the road about 11 miles from the Mowich Lake Campground parking lot was unpaved, rough and filled with pot holes but wasn't too bad as it wasn't very busy. We arrived at Mowich lake at about 11:30am to start our hike. the weather was perfect and the trail was well maintained. We didn't see too many hikers along the way, which made it feel nice and secluded. There are two lakes that you will come across. The first is Mowich lake which starts near the parking lot, and the next is Lake Eunice. Both are absolutely breathtaking! The water is a beautiful turquoise blue with a rocky backdrop, which includes the top of Rainier peaking from behind. The majority of the hike takes you through tall evergreens and rocky cliff faces until you reach Eunice Lake. Once we reached Eunice Lake the hike from the top was about a mile, a steep mile at that, but it went by quickly, especially considering how far away it looks from the lake.
Once we reached the Tolmie lookout point, the views were breathtaking! 360˚ views featuring Mt. Rainier front and center. Views of Lake Eunice directly below and Mowich Lake closer to Rainier.
Overall it was a fantastic hike, a little tough but not too bad, and I would recommend anyone to take this hike. The uphill climb is worth it!
