North Cascades > Mountain Loop Highway

Just got back from what will likely be our (Everett Mountaineers) last trip out to log out the Heather Lake trail. The trail is infinitely more passable than it was 2 weeks ago, and safer as well. That being said, the windfall area is still a danger zone - advise passing through the area with great care and a heightened level of awareness. There's still a lot of material that gravity is waiting to bring down. If even a slight wind is blowing, go elsewhere. Don't know when the big boys and girls with their mechanized saws will be able to get out there so it'd be good to anticipate that this is going to be as good as it gets for awhile. What was left behind was over our volunteer pay grade.
