Trip Report

Heliotrope Ridge — Thursday, Sep. 15, 2016

North Cascades > Mount Baker Area
Lower Coleman Icefall
Maybe the last day of beautiful summer because rain shower forecasted for this weekend. I arrived at the TH around at noon and there were more than 20 cars in the parking lot. It was Thursday but the trail was crowded, yes, a beautiful and perfect day to enjoy the view of the Coleman Glacier. This was an easy trail, no bug at all, and I saw many casual hikers with sneakers. But, the only hard thing, it wasn't easy to cress the last creek; fast-flowing water; not enough / odd shape / slippery stepping-stones. (Frankly, many people say it as the last creek but the real last one is the Heliotrope Creek with is the next one.) Coleman Glacier is just gorgeous! I can say for sure that the Coleman Glacier is the most spectacular glacier people can enjoy with the minimum effort in the world. I hiked the moraine a little more ,up to the fall, from the end of the official trail. I could see the main fall which was not shown from the trail but the last 100-200ft of approaching to the fail was a little tricky. Please see the ramblr link below for more photos.
