Lily and Lizard Lake Loop — Friday, Dec. 23, 2016

Puget Sound and Islands > Bellingham Area
In the parking lot...It was melting a little when we left.
My daughter and I hiked to Lily Lake today, we were a little unsure if we'd make it because it was snowing at our home in Arlington when we left, and continued snowing the whole way up. The road in was fine, a little slippy due to about an inch of snow, but didn't need 4 wheel drive. Although it didn't hurt either! The trail itself was in good shape, had some intermittent snow to start with and more as we got higher up, but never enough that we would have wanted snowshoes. There was about 4" in the clearings at the top of Mt Blanchard, but it was still snowing so its possible that in the next few days this may become a snowshoe route! The woods were beautiful, snowy forests are amazing...Didn't see anybody else, although there were two other cars in the lot when we got there. Also, we came out via Maxs Shortcut, made a loop out of it, no problems with that trail either. We didn't go to Lizard Lake because the snow was getting deeper, and also we were short on time....
Snowy trail!
At the top, approaching the lake.
