Shi Shi Beach and Point of the Arches — Monday, Feb. 20, 2017
Olympic Peninsula > Pacific Coast
Jogged out just after 4pm with enough time to catch the sunset. We used some questionable ropes to help us down the steep descent to the secluded beach at the first opening in the trail (I believe Shi Shi is actually further down the trail). There were a few others on the trail, but everyone was gone by sundown and we got the beautiful sunset all to ourselves - awesome! Though hiking back through extremely muddy conditions in the dark was challenging, it was well worth it for the painted sky. I would recommend waterproof boots that cover your ankle: the mud can be pretty deep in areas. A change of shoe for the drive home is also a good idea.

Gorgeous photos and nice report. Are dogs allowed on that trail/beach? I've wanted to take mine, but I thought they weren't allowed. It would be great to find a beach hike to take them on!

Dogs are unfortunately not allowed in most of Olympic National Park and wilderness. I will also say that dogs would have to be carried down the rope-assisted descent to the beach if you choose to bring them anyway. The beaches in between Hoh and Quinault Reservations allow dogs.

I checked out your report to see your pictures! What beautiful pics, I hope you put them in the WTA gallery. I love the rope one! As a note to below, if dogs are not allowed PLEASE DON'T bring them! Rules are meant for everyone to follow.
