Hoh River Trail to Five Mile Island — Saturday, Apr. 8, 2017

Olympic Peninsula > Pacific Coast
Trail Bridge
Rained like crazy the first night. On Sunday it was clear and sunny all day, made up for the rain-soaked hike in and night. This was our first hike of the year and last year we hiked up to the Glacier, wanted to see what the trail was like and take advantage of a lower elevation hike that didn't include the snow in my normal stomping grounds. The trail is completed flooded in a number of areas which requires balancing on downed trees or going around the flooded areas completely. Saw a herd of about 30 elk right along the trail about a mile from the trailhead. Not a lot of traffic on the trail, passed one tent on Saturday and a handful of day hikers on both days. Probably a good idea to monitor the weather and be prepared for a lot of rain (it's a rain forest after all).
