Ancient Lakes — Friday, Jun. 2, 2017

Central Washington > Potholes Region

We parked at the Ancient and Dusty lakes trailhead. We hiked in the evening just before sunset, and by the time we arrived at our lakeside campsite it was pretty dark. With our headlamps the bugs were pretty bad but as soon as we turned them off to look at the stars the bugs went away. In the heat of day I didn't notice bugs at all.

There were lots of established campsites around the lakes starting at about 2 miles from the trailhead. We hiked all around the coulee and scrambled up to the waterfall. We never saw any other people or even any snakes! We were careful where we stepped watching for rattlers the whole time but never came across one.  We did see one lone coyote in the distance. Overall a great place I would love to go again.
