Cama Beach Historical State Park, Anacortes Community Forest Lands - Little Cranberry Lake — Wednesday, Jun. 21, 2017

Cranberry Lake from the end of the trail.

After doing our beach hike over at Camano Island State Park we headed one mile north to Cama Beach Historical State Park. The park was a former beach resort with cabins. The state bought the property and now rents out the cabins. On the state park map it shows a trail going to Cranberry Lake east of West Camano Drive. We parked in the lower parking lot where a shuttle van takes guest down to the cabins. The trail to the lake begins near the shuttle van pick up / drop off area and heads northeast on an old roadbed to the main entrance to the park. Crossing West Camano Drive the trail continues up through the second growth forest and meets the Cross Island Trail. We then went south to get to the Cranberry Lake Trail. This trail begins off a park service road with a kiosk and a trail map. The trail goes easterly and in 0.7 mile gets to the lake. The lake is an old beaver pond and is pretty good size. The trail ends on top off an beaver dam part way out into the lake. The lake is covered with lots of larger lily pads. Saw a few fish jumping and some ducks swimming around.

After getting back to the service road, we hiked south and crossed over West Camano Drive again. Then hiked the service road (this was the old road to the beach when the resort was still open, before becoming a state park) back to the parking lot. So gave us part of a loop hike. Only saw four other hikers on this trip. You can also hike the one mile connector trail between Camano Island State Park and Cama Beach State Park.
