Silver Peak — Sunday, Aug. 20, 2017

Snoqualmie Region > Snoqualmie Pass
Summit view

My second time heading up to the summit, this time with a friend in tow. What a beautiful day. Mount Rainier was looming close by.

There are huckleberries ripening along the first exposed stretch of the PCT. We saw about 6 people with buckets picking on our way out, so there might not be too many left.

Took about 2.5 hours going up, 1.5 hours coming down. Had the summit to ourselves for about 10 minutes in between parties coming and going. There is a summit register, but it is filling up quickly. Trail was very dry, only a couple short sections of mud (not deep or too wet). There are lots of flying bugs at the summit that can be pretty annoying. It felt like they were constantly dive-bombing me, haha. They are fewer in number on the saddle in between the two high points of the peak.

I would not recommend this trail if you don't know how to change a tire or if you have a fear of heights. The road is extremely rough (although last time I did make it up in my Ford Taurus, haha). It is also helpful to be comfortable with your body positioning when climbing the short Class 3 section. There are plenty of good foot/handholds, but it may be daunting for some.

Glad to have made it back to this peak on such a beautiful day.
