Perfect day for my first summit of Adams!! Took around 4+ hours to reach Lunch Counter where we camped, and were blessed with amazing views of Hood and St Helens, plus sunset and sunrise. I personally think the hike to Lunch Counter was harder than the summit push because it was over 90 degrees and so so so rocky. There was minimal wind that night and we were all well rested for the next day's climb. We started our summit bid the next day around 6:15am, and made the summit at 9:30am- the first group up there besides a sunrise climber! The summit was fairly windy and cold, so make sure you're prepared with layers. Piker's peak and the last ascent were snow free- all loose rock. Be careful! I used a pole and and an ice axe for stability. After Piker's Peak, I did not use crampons. But before that, crampons and an ice axe were necessary for an early morning ascent. The rest of my group glissaded down easily, but I side stepped with my crampons and had no problems there either. Once back at camp, we took an hour to pack up and reached the trailhead around 4:30pm, craving burgers and milkshakes :) All in all, it was a great trip!
