HOLY BUTTS this trail was beautiful today.
First of all, definitely bring micro spikes or yaktraxs. the last half mile was very icy on our way out.
Secondly, we are full force in the season of "the weather can change in a moments notice". It was mostly cloudy with some blue sky and very light snowing when we started, totally foggy and HUGE cold snowflakes when we left.
Thirdly, and likely what you came here for, THE LARCHES ARE AT MAXIMUM! or at least, so I think. this was my first larch hike. some were dropping needles, and I didn't see any green larches...
The colors were amazing, and the hike was not too difficult. I'd definitely take a beginner here. We planned on hanging out at the lake for a while, but it started to get reeeally cold.
Lots of other people at the lake. we started at about 10am (definitely get there by 10. parking lot was backed up on the street when we came down). got back to the car before 1pm.
