I took a break from studying to make a little morning trip to the Mclane Creek Nature Trail in Capitol Forest. This was a nice little hike! It's easy to get to from Olympia and has a decently sized parking lot. I was a little disappointed that I didn't see any newts like the signs said were around. There are quite a few trees with fall colors, so that was a nice bonus. I did hear a few gunshots, so be aware that there are apparently hunters around.
The trail is mostly boardwalk and wheelchair accessible, but some parts would be difficult to navigate. I will say that there are a lot of paths that branch off the main trail and I nearly got lost at one point before turning around. The creek is pretty low right now, so I think a trip back in Spring would be worth it. If you are in the area and want a nice little leg stretcher, this is a good choice!
