From the very beginning, the hike goes straight up. The trail is pretty rocky and not an easy climb up. We made it up in 1:45, and back down in 1:20. This hike is not an easy one and I don’t recommend it unless you’re in fairly good shape. Around 2.2 miles the trail becomes a creek/swamp and waterproof boots are definitely necessary. Around 2.8 miles in, the snow started and crampons or micro-spikes would have been nice. My friend had some and they helped her, but I didn’t and I slid around a bit (but it was definitely do-able without them). The views at the top were nice; it was very windy and cold. My dog made it just fine the entire way. Hiking down is rough on the knees (for reference, I am 20 and a runner with no knee problems).
