Trip Report

Dalles Ridge Snowshoe — Sunday, Jan. 28, 2018

Mount Rainier Area > Chinook Pass - Hwy 410

Hiked Sunday. Only passed one other hiker and his small dog (who was doing fine in the snow).

Road on way was fine and clear, some slush in the parking area which is an incline so be careful there.

Snow coverage on entire trail, but soft and no ice, so just hiking boots with no spikes or crampons was fine. Gators would be nice as the snow gets deeper at about mile 3. We only made it to 3.8 miles without snow shoes, but its only 4 to the top so we just turned around at that point.

Views were pretty, and the overcast broke a few times enabling mountain top sights. We did hear GUN SHOTS a lot, and saw elk tracks, so do be careful.
