We wanted to escape the gloom of western Washington and searched sun in the eastern part of the state. This hike has been on my radar for sometime and this seemed like a great time to do it. It's a far drive from Seattle, particularly when you have an extra hour added on with traffic at the pass. We got to the trailhead and there was one other car. Having a map downloaded is helpful, as there is no trailhead indicator. Once we found the start of the trail it was very easy to follow. Once you get to the sand it's a blaze your own trail kind of adventure. It is worth it to go to the second sand dune farther out as it's bigger. We clocked 5.77 miles roundtrip and almost 800 elevation gain. Lovely snow free hike adventure for February!

Great photos! The South Slope area is spectacular too. No dunes, but fun, slopey hills to run up and down and great views!
