Dungeness National Wildlife Refuge - Dungeness Spit — Saturday, Mar. 10, 2018

Olympic Peninsula > Northern Coast
View from the trail coming down to the shore

Driving directions spot on. Good signage on the road.  Arrived at the trailhead a little after 9 am. $3 day use fee charged by the refuge. Receipt/permit must be kept with you, not in vehicle. Very few cars when we arrived. Short walk down to the beach. Arrived as the tide was going out. Sand and rocks, lots of dead wood on the beach. Arrived on a beautiful sunny day. Some clouds over the olympics but none over the strait. Clear view of Mt Baker to the north/north east.  Toured the lighthouse and even made it to the top. Looks are deceiving on this walk. From the trail down doesn’t look like it would be 5 miles..mile markers down the spit. Doing this hike again at the end of June. Parking lot full when we returned.
