Ancient Lakes — Tuesday, Apr. 10, 2018

Central Washington > Potholes Region
Series of Waterfalls

Kind of reminds me of a desert/canyon version of the upper enchantments with easy access.   Great time of year to do this.

From the Ancient Lakes Trailhead, I headed straight west keeping both waterfalls and all the lakes on my left, the near canyon wall on my right.  Gorgeous scenery, birds chirping, water flowing.

After clearing the lakes, the canyon widens and the trail becomes an old jeep road eventually reaching a parking lot.   A bit before this parking lot, I cut left onto another old dirt road (now labeled w/ cairns) that headed due south, paralleling the power lines.  A half mile or so down that road, there was a trail to the right (also with cairns) that led to a Columbia river view.

Could see where the trail drops down and eventually reaches the river but I turned back here.  Was probably another two miles.

Next time I'll bring a map, because there were other trails and could have made a big loop.   Didn't know any of the names of the lakes, so some of the info in this trail description didn't make sense.
