Mount Si - Old Trail — Saturday, May. 5, 2018

Snoqualmie Region > North Bend Area
The old trail

Got to Little Si’s TH at 11:35 am on a busy Saturday. We had to park about 3/4 of a mile away since both lots were full, but we expected this getting a late start on a weekend. The trail was busy until we broke off from the Little Si crowd at the Boulder Garden Loop to head up Mount Si’s old trail. We only passed about 10 parties on the way up and 1 on the way down. Once we joined up with the new trail just before the summit it got very crowded again, and the rocks were full of people eating their lunch. We passed them and continued on to summit the haystack which is a bit of a climb, but definitely worth doing. We made it to the top at 2 pm and spent an hour taking in the views, enjoying our lunch and hanging out with the local grey jay. It was a mostly clear day, the bottom half of Rainier was visible in the distance. We started our descent at 3 pm and arrived back at the TH at 4:40 pm. The trail was in great shape, no snow or mud to avoid.
