Monte Cristo Ghost Town — Monday, May. 28, 2018

North Cascades > Mountain Loop Highway

Really enjoyed our hike to Monte Cristo today. There is a log you have to cross to get over the river but it is doable. I am afraid of heights and was able to cross it (was a little afraid I have to admit) and my husband and sister carried our small dogs across. Once you get past the log it is mainly a gravel road the rest of the way. Even though it’s a road you have beautiful views of the mountain and the river the whole way! When we got up there spend some time exploring-took us a little under 2 hours to get there. There were about a dozen or so other groups we saw, and many of them with small children and well behaved leashed dogs!! Not bad for a holiday and WAY less crowded than the nearby lake 22 that had cars spilling out on the highway! The rangers were giving tickets to those without a NW forest pass so make sure you get one!I would highly recommend this hike!
