South Cascades > Mount St. Helens
Sunset by St Helens

Did some easy day hikes in St Helens (Ape Caves, Lava Canyon), then hiked in ~6 miles, just past Pumice Butte. Trail is in excellent condition, except for the swarms of biting flies that accosted us until we left the forest (approx 4 miles in). The flies abated once we entered open country above 4000 feet, and we passed by two dry creeks before setting up camp by a pleasant - and wet- creek that feeds a tremendous waterfall. There were quite a few other parties camped there, but there's a good number of campsites present, and my group had no trouble finding space.

One word of note: as the prior reports might attest, there's a ton of mountain biking on this trail. Be sure to make some noise as you hike in order to avoid any potential collisions.
