I arrived at the Johnson Ridge Observatory just after 8. The parking lot only had a few cars in it. It was a really sunny day and the trail is pretty exposed, with only a few shaded area. Sun protection is important if you hike this trail. There are wonderful blue/purple, red, yellow, and white flowers in bloom still, but it seems that most are seeding now. Almost the entire trail offers GORGEOUS views of Mt. St. Helens. There is also a TON of Rufous hummingbird activity. I also saw a mountain blue bird pair, a flycatcher, and an orange crowned warbler. I got back to the trailhead just after 1 (I stopped a bunch to take photos), and there were way more cars in the lot and passed a lot of people on the way back. Wonderful hike with amazing views!

I forgot to add - bring extra water, especially on a summer day!
