Mount Adams South Climb — Sunday, Jul. 29, 2018

South Cascades > Mount Adams Area
Pikers Peak in background

Started at trailhead around 4:45am. This was my first volcano, very excited.

Made it to summit in 4hr 50min.  Carried crampons but never pulled them out. Most everyone else was using crampons,  I just used micro spikes and a pole. Its pretty darn steep at times but snow was bumpy enough I wasn't too worried. Carried ice axe but only used on the decent :)

That altitude did kick my butt. Last 1,000 feet to summit was a new kind of pain/slog for me. No appetite at summit. But I made it back to car in about 3 hours. Thanks to glissading basically to lunch counter at 10,000' then ate all the food.
