Carne Mountain by kae
Wow. That road. Just. Wow. I used all the uphill and downhill assist features on my 4runner and was still surprised I didn't pop a tire or bounce off the side of the mountain or get swallowed up by one of the fissures in the earth aka ruts in the road. Luckily the bad part is only the final three miles. The trail is steadily steep, a hand full of blowdowns easily passible, a dusting of snow at the basin and beyond, larches are almost at peak, many were still lime green. I had the whole basin all to myself overnight Saturday, clear skies and 28 degrees, good water source. 3mi and 2700ft to Carne Basin, another .75mi and 900ft to the top of Carne Mountain.
