Snow Peak — Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2018

Eastern Washington > Okanogan Highlands/Kettle River Range
Cabin in the snow

Stayed at Snow Peak Cabin for three nights and had quite the snow storm for Halloween 4-5 inches. Hiked in from Sherman Loop trail head (check status of TH they are doing forestry work) clockwise and trail was in good shape. We arrived after dark at the cabin and water trough and pvc pipe were both frozen. There is a pvc pipe up hill where there is a spring that we were able to get water from, plus a water source not far from trough that we pumped out of. Halloween we woke up to a winter wonderland of 4-5 inches of snow and were able to melt snow for water also.  Cabin is prepared and we shoveled snow and then day hiked towards Edds mountain breaking trail all the way so unfortunately we did not make it due to being completely soaked. Back to the cabin we went for fire and drying our gear out. Clear night and we had an amazing star and Milky Way show!  Stayed three nights and snow was almost gone completely when we hiked out on the other half of Sherman Loop Friday the 2nd of November.

Frozen, we were able to break it up and clear ice out of pvc but I prefer fresher water and was able to find it not far from trough.
On the trail from cabin towards Edds mountain
Friday’s hiked out on Sherman loop we followed bear tracks for a few miles but no sightings.
