Trip Report

Kamiak Butte — Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2019

Eastern Washington > Palouse and Blue Mountains
Kamiak Butte from another hill to the east a day earlier.

No better way to ring in the New Year, or any day for that matter, than with a hike. The local favorite is Kamiak Butte and I tried the West Side Primitive Trail for the first time which has a mile and a few hundred feet of gain more than the normal loop. A sign says it's rated as "difficult" but it's just a standard trail and nothing is very primitive about it. I came down via the main trail for a 4.75 mile loop with 1200' of gain.

Microspikes were definitely handy today as the trail was completely frozen and slippery.

A somewhat overcast and chilly day but Palouse views are always a treat.

Toward Moscow. Tomer Butte and Paradise Ridge in the distance.
Moscow Mtn and The Palouse Range.
Looking south before descending the trail.
