Trail snow-covered at times - gear and expertise recommended

Got one of the kids out of the house for a short hike. Started at W. Lake Sammamish Pkwy. Trail goes up from there gaining 260 + ft in 1/4 mile. We took trail a little bit toward Phantom Lake before turning around. Saw a few families and one hiker training doing laps up and down with a backpack. She had micro spikes on. We just had boots and did fine, but we were going slow and slipped a little. This is a good training hike as you could do 4 laps up and down and be over 1,000 ft elevation gain.
