Trip Report

Camano Island State Park — Wednesday, Mar. 13, 2019

Puget Sound and Islands > Bellingham Area

Went for a sunny after-work hike. Shortly after you enter the park there is an intersection where you can either turn right/continue straight (down to the North beach area) or turn left to go further into the park. I turned left and then parked at the first parking area on the right.

From here I headed uphill along what I think was the Power Line trail, and followed this south for about half a mile to its intersection with the Howard Adams Forest Loop trail. There seemed to be more debris than usual on the forest floor but the trail is marvelously clear - it looks like they've done a lot of work removing downed branches and a couple of trees. I did most of the loop, breaking off for a wander through the campground and then jumping onto the West Rim Section back toward North Beach. The views along this stretch were especially gorgeous and there are lots of nice benches for sitting and enjoying the sun.

Overall I walked about 3 miles between the various trails and some backtracking and wandering though campgrounds.
