Icicle Ridge — Saturday, Mar. 30, 2019

Central Cascades > Leavenworth Area

There is a lot more snow on the ground in the Leavenworth area as compared to this time last year, however, this hike, with its switchbacks open to the sun most of the way, was about 90% snow-free.  The trail started out looking like it was going to be compact snow, but that's very brief, before drying out for the remainder of the way.  There is still snow on the ridge, with a classic spring look - winter on one side, and summer on the other.  Be careful not to venture onto the snowy slopes of the ridge.

One of my favorite things about this hike are the raptors and ravens always gliding around the ridge.  I was attempting my raven sounds back to a talkative one in a tree, when it swooped down onto the snow 15 feet from me, used its giant beak to shovel snow into its mouth, and then take off.  Pure heaven.

Also, the wildflowers are starting!
