First time hiking this trail and it was a really nice hike. It was windy though (10-20mph, 30mph gusts) which kept my wife and I cool but blasted us when we got to the dunes. The hike itself is really nice because it's away from everything and not very many people hike it. We went on a Saturday afternoon and saw only one car but saw no one on the trail.
The hike itself wasn't too hard, just a little long. The most elevation gain is in the beginning but it's not too bad. There are a few small hills / valleys in the middle but nothing close to the beginning. The views of the river and geology along the cliffs were excellent! Trail condition was excellent. It had rained some that morning but the trail was mostly packed dirt with a few areas of sand (before the dunes).
When we got to the dunes the wind was beating us pretty good. We decided to hike only to the end of the first dune and visit the second dune another time. The dunes themselves are very picturesque. I hope to visit again for a sunset.
I wish they allowed for overnight camping as it would be a great spot but alas NO OVERNIGHT CAMPING OR PARKING!
Also, no rattlesnakes (or any other wildlife) was scene during our hike.
