Trip Report

Taylor River - Otter Falls — Saturday, Apr. 27, 2019

Snoqualmie Region > North Bend Area

I recommend reviewing the 4/18 trip report that "ngie" submitted. It has many helpful details. No need for me to recreate the wheel on the logistics of the trail. Got an early (6:30) and rainy start today. Only a few cars were parked at the trailhead. Saw three hardy souls camping at the disbursed sites just past the TH. It rained all the way to the falls and then, miraculously, the skies cleared long enough for me to sit on a rock, eat and enjoy some astounding beauty, peace and solitude.

The sun did bring out a hatch of small bugs, but they were not too bad and didn't seem interested in my blood. After a snack and some photos of the amazing falls, I headed back. I really wanted to see the Big Creek falls, but I was running short on time. Next time, maybe.

It started to spit corn snow at me on the way down. (Not quite snow, and not quite hail.) It was exactly the weather I had hoped for. Spring hikes are so unpredictable and exciting.

Didn't see anyone else until I was almost back to the wooden bridge, but then it was a steady stream of people and their canine friends. I have to say that all the pups were either on-leash or well controlled. I did pass a group that assumed their fellow hikers would enjoy hearing their music along the way. I hope the Trail DJ turned it off at the falls for the sake of the other hikers who came out to enjoy the peace of nature.

It started to hail for real just as I got to the car. It was a wonderful morning hike.
