We hiked to Merritt Lake for the first time (did not attempt Lost Lake) and it was beautiful! I am assuming the only reason we didn't see more people (only met 2 solo hikers all day) was because of the persistent snow that starts about a mile from the lake. Navigation skills are a must. No traction needed. The variety of wildflowers in the first mile was delightful. We even found a 7 petal trillium! There were numerous large blowdowns along the way requiring a variety of work-arounds but none particularly challenging. The road was very rocky and pot-holed so take your time! Next time we'll continue up to the ridge for some views. No passes or leashes required.
