After camping overnight in the Heart O the Hills we were up at first light and drove up the Hurricane Ridge to hike Klahhane Ridge.
There is patchy snow out from the parking lot, but nothing hard to cross if you have boots and poles for grip, balance and kicking steps. A little further along the trail, past Sunrise point, there is a bigger snow field - again boots for kicking steps will give you no problems, inadequate footwear.....you're going to go sliding!
The views were quite incredible. Wildflowers are blooming all along the route, deer were grazing, we saw woodpeckers and tanagers, it was really beautiful. We turned back under Mt Angeles so as to get off the trail before the Memorial Day crowds, we passed no one on the way out and about 6 people as we neared the parking lot on the way back and it was definitely worth the early start.
Please please please stay on the snow on the trail, and try not to go off around it onto the alpine meadow, the wild flowers are doing there best to get going - we saw a few people walking on the meadow out of the parking lot and "asked them" not to. Thankfully but the time we got back the rangers were out doing the same. Please stay off it so it stays open for us all to enjoy.
Absolutely beautiful hike - will be back to this one!
