Enjoyed a fantastic and challenging thru-hike of The Enchantments over the weekend of May 30-June 2. The core between Asgard Pass and Lake Viviane is still mostly snow-covered with a depth of about 2-3 feet. There really isn't a boot path so navigation skills are a must.
Climbing Asgard Pass required crampons and poles. An ice axe could be helpful as there are three snow crossings.
Campsites that I spotted
- just east of Tranquil Lake
- on a rock shelf above Crystal Lake
- on a rock shelf along the outlet of Inspiration Lake
- on the trail between Inspiration and Perfection Lake
- at the south-east point of Lake Viviane
All toilets in the core are still hidden underneath snow. Plan to pack out your waste.
Some mountain goats are already back in the core. I spotted five goats near Inspiration Lake, and one goat near Colchuck Lake.
