Dirt road in with lots of oracle but nothing too big and no potholes. A one lane so a little scary when trying to pass an oncoming car. Trail had patches of snow at the beginning but nothing difficult to walk through. Mosquitos were pretty bad and we got bit up a bunch. The hike to Moose Lake is mostly downhill and the switchbacks are the worst...going down and coming up. There are a few small creek crossings which weren’t difficult but I’m glad I had my trekking poles for balance. We saw a ton of deer and even a few babies! Other wildlife encountered were rabbits and a variety of birds.
Campsites on the lake are ideal as they are flat and having easy access to the water. Spots off the lake are very rocky and uneven. We stayed at site 2, it’s off the lake but probably has the best view of the lake. Many people were fishing at the lake as well
The hike out was a real challenge. Almost all uphill and the change in terrain adds to the difficulty...especially with an overnight backpack weighing you down.
Not a lot of tree cover so come prepared for the elements. It was very sunny and windy for our trip. We got both wind and sun burned even while wearing a hat and sunscreen.
