Just got back from spending 2 nights at the lake. The weather was like a monsoon! But amazing all the same. And when it cleared up is was stunning. Mosquitos were extremely aggressive! I wore deep woods off and a net over my face. At camp I set my thermacell and that really helped.
The trail is in great condition. If you go all the way to the big meadow (past the lake) there are a lot of blowdowns, but nothing bad. Only wildlife we saw were chipmunks. They definitely are used to people! I woke up in the night to hearing something walk thru camp and then the beer cans we were keeping cold in the lake move around. Next morning there were deer tracks. Fish were jumping like crazy!
I can not stress enough to bring mosquito repellent and a net to go over your head. I came home with a few bites but not bad. I’m not in the best of shape and with the awful weather forecast I brought extra stuff, so my pack weight around 40 pounds. I’m sore and exhausted but it was so worth it!
