We had a fantastic hike to Shannon Ridge. Views directly west to Mount Baker are outstanding. My hiking bud and I felt the grade was similar to Mount Si—steep in places, yes, but no scrambling required—and had rooty, eroded sections around mile 1.5 similar to the old trail to Mailbox Peak. Not difficult to traverse, just a little bit longer to navigate around. Once on top of Shannon Ridge we continued north to the North Cascades NP boundary for superb views of Mount Baker and surrounding peaks. We stopped below the climbers path at 5,000 feet, about 3.75 miles into the hike. All told it came out to be about 7.65 miles rt, 2400 feet cumulative gain. We took our time at the top and enjoyed the views, so were out there for about 4.5 hours total. The road has some large potholes but we saw a couple low clearance vehicles that made it to the trailhead.
