Three of us over 65yrs old hiked from the parking area off Rt542. Shortly after the first fork in the trail, about a mile in, we reached the first snowfield. We were all wearing good boots and had hiking poles but would have been happier with some sort of crampon. We crossed multiple snowfields, very very carefully, and would do it all again happily. The day we hiked conditions were quite warm, so the snow fields were at least a bit soft on top, making it easier than it would have been if they were icy. We got about 6 miles in toward Baker.
