We had hoped to do the Heather Maple Pass Loop this day, but the weather was pretty bad and there were thunderstorms in the forecast for later in the morning so we opted for just the short out and bike hike to Lake Ann. The trail was a little muddy due to the rain and there are a couple trees down across the trail, but easy to navigate around/over. Wildflowers were in bloom along the open parts of the trail and we could hear pikas squeaking in the distance. Lake Ann looked clear and beautiful in the rain, and the clouds had lifted just enough so we could see the tops of the ridge around the lake.
When doing the full loop, I'm not sure if this lake is worth the detour as you'll have views down toward the lake almost the whole way around, but as a shorter alternative it was a great little hike!
