I had planned a hike from White Pass to Chinook Pass but with thunderstorms in the forecast, I thought an alternative route would be wise. I found a 24-hour window of good weather for this hike.
We hiked clockwise around the loop starting at Cultus Creek Campground, headed south on Indian Heaven Trail to Junction lake, then rode the PCT north and camped at Bear Lake. For being the least visited wilderness area in the state, it took longer than I expected to find a suitable campsite.
Heard some thunder coming from the east but never had any precipitation and the storm eventually moved off.
Trail is mostly great but is a little rough after leaving the PCT and heading back to Cultus Creek CG. There was a WTA trail party doing some maintenance in this area though. Thanks WTA!
No snow, minimal bugs (I didn't wear any spray and came away with no bites), a few lingering flowers, abundant berries in some areas, lots of mushrooms, and fall colors are starting to show.
