Lake Laura Backdoor — Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2019

Snoqualmie Region > Snoqualmie Pass

Getting here:

take the left off of FS 4832  ~ 1.4 mi onto FS 4832-136

then you’ll take a right at a Y ~ 1.3mi (from left turn onto 136)

the trail head is ~0.7mi from here

The road is potholey, not terrible, we were fine in a rav4 w city tires. It is very tight in places with overgrown bush. There is room for 7 cars at the trailhead and a few spots along the road.

We arrived at 12:30p, there were 5 cars on a wed! I figured for an unofficial trail this would not be heavily used. Incorrect! Everyone was super nice.

The hike starts out going through overgrown brush, then quickly gets into vert. The trail is a little hard to follow with no signage or markings, highly highly recommend using GPS. Once to lake Lillian, everything was covered with snow and very slippery. There was only one way around lake Lillian (shows 2 on maps) as the trail along the lake was indiscernible due to snow. The other way around splits off right where the trail starts to peak going to lake Lillian it branches off to the right where there is a fallen log. Have to climb over the log. It swiftly picks up in gain. There’s a beautiful rock overlook of the lake. The trail descends down to the lake again and you walk next to the lake. Then picks up again ascending to the ridge. This is where the ‘class 2’ scramble is. The trail around the lake and going up to the ridge are the most tricky technical ‘dangerous’ parts. I honestly was fine in trail running shoes no poles. But I am a minimalist. Everyone else had poles and snow trekking gear. Trail was muddy (not terrible), and slippery coming down. Take your time. On the way down we missed the backdoor trail and ended up on the lake Lillian trail that goes down toward twin lakes, luckily only for a short time. GPS saved the day.

This is a REALLY fun hike!!! Just take your time and pay attention to the GPS
