Trip Report

Capitol State Forest - McLane Creek — Saturday, Oct. 19, 2019

Olympic Peninsula > Olympia

I'm apparently hitting up all of the Olympia area trails during breaks in the rain this weekend! Today was McClane Creek Nature Trail. The Fall foliage in Capitol Forest is amazing right now! McClane Creek makes for a nice little walk in then woods. It's only about a mile and a half, but it could be combined with other trails in the area.

There were no ducks or beavers at the pond today, unfortunately, but there were plenty of people with their dogs. The boardwalks around the lake are in good condition, but they can be a little slippery. The trail isn't too muddy, despite the rain for the last week. This is a nice trail if you're in the area!

Did you find this trip report helpful?

We were there last weekend...lots of ducks sleeping, bathing, etc. Actually quite surprised how many there were. The wooden bridges were quite slippery but the trail was clear and easy to walk. No salmon in the creek yet....as around this time we have seen the dead ones that didn’t make it. Had my 6 and 9 year old plus 12 year old Shepherd.

I saw your report and was hoping the wood ducks would be there! I'll just have to go back again (when the salmon are in the creek!).
