Trip Report

Grand Park via Lake Eleanor — Monday, Nov. 11, 2019

Mount Rainier Area > NE - Sunrise/White River

These conditions won't last long. Thanks to Global Climate Weirding, I was able to do what felt like a spring hike snow-free in the middle of November. The road is free of snow all the way to the trailhead.

I got to the trailhead at about 12:00 and started at 12:30. Trails conditions are excellent.  The trail is free of snow until about 1.5 miles after Lake Eleanor. Snow begins in the final 200 foot climb into Grand Park. The park itself is like a snow free welcome mat, or front yard for the mountain. I felt bad turning my back on the mountain but had to head home.

Round trip was 3.5 hours from the trailhead to the intersection of Lake Eleanor Trail and the Northern Loop. Let me know if you go again! One major snow fall and this scenery will be gone!
