Spent a wonderful Friday night in the basin and woke up to the sounds of marmots and pikas throughout the valley. Unfortunately, at about 11:00a on Saturday, two women arrived and released their energetic dogs into the basin and surrounding rocks to terrorize the marmots and pikas. Please, please, please, if you bring your dog, never release it into an alpine meadow or rock field!

Hobbler: totally agree with your plea - do not let dogs off leash in these delicate subalpine basins! Pikas are becoming endangered and marmots are easily killed by dogs. I'm a dog lover, and sometimes hike with my dog - but always on leash, always respectful of the critters who live in this land (and I carry the poop bag out too!)
