The Lacamas Heritage Trail runs along Lacamas Lake. I picked the trail up at the North end, off NE Goodwin Road. There are bathrooms at this trailhead. A golf course and homes are fenced off on one side of the trail with the lake as the boundary on the other side.
The parking lot at this location had about 4 cars on an early Sunday morning, but was full (~15) when I left 1.5 hours later. The trail is mostly gravel from this end. The wide, flat trail has mile markers every quarter mile and narrows a bit at points. There are some nice rock formations along the trail. Several bridges cross streams and there are many benches for resting.
I saw many runners + dogs, a few walkers, a couple bikers, and one boat of folks fishing. There are a few off-shoots into the nearby neighborhood or down to the beach. I saw a private dock at one point, so I’m not clear on whether beach access is public or private. There is a public dock at the 2 mile mark from the above starting point.
I saw birds, ducks, and a squirrel. It is a very scenic, mostly shady trail right by the water with lots of good size fir trees, a few flowering bushes, and some berry bushes. There were two signs that gave me pause: 1) Parking lot sign warning of vandalism as evidenced by the glass on the ground. 2) Several signs warning of no shooting. There was also a number of dog poop bags left on the trail. Overall, it was a nice, close to town place for a stroll, but probably a little more busy than I like. I might check the trail out at another entry point.
